The Historic Key West Vacation Rentals Agency was a pleasure to deal with. Call them directly in lieu of going through VRBO or AirBNB and have to pay for their added fee with nothing to show for the added burden. The agency even provides free concierge service (coordinated golf cart rental and information on things to do) which is unavailable through VRBO or AirBNB, and a place to store your luggage while waiting for rental check in time. Outstanding accommodations. We rented a six passenger golf cart for our travels in Key West. Parking is a challenge in the Keys. The house we rented could accomodate one vehicle plus the golf cart. Our party was six adults. The home worked very well . It had upstairs one king bed with an adjoining bath and two small bedrooms each with full or queen size beds and a shared bathroom. The first floor easily accomadated 6 adults with 1/2 bathroom, washer & dryer, large 6 seated dining room, large family room with a small TV, a small kitchen but well furnished. I would recommend an upgrade for the coffee pot to be one that supported Keurig as well as ground coffee. Fridge, stove, dishwasher, sink, microwave, pots and pans, utensils and dishwasher. The outdoor pool and patio area around it was a real plus, and where we spent most of our time. Decorated perfectly with a tropical flare and very private from the street and other homes. A grill and outside shower were an added bonus. Location was convenient to places to eat & small grocery stores. Some form of transportation was needed to go to larger grocery store and beaches on the East side of the Island. Although not terribly far to walk to the action spots on Duval street. It was a good distance to Mallory Square and the West side activities and the Golf Cart was used for those trips and to visit the Southern Most Point, Hemingway House, the Butterfly House and Garden. Our overall experience, principally as a result of our wonderful accomadations was outstanding.

perfect key west getaway – comfortable, well-equipped, and great
We had an incredible stay at this beautiful home in Key West for my 40th birthday! From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and comfortable. The house was very comfortable, spacious, and well-appointed, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind.
The pool and fountain were absolute highlights—such a peaceful oasis to cool off after a day of exploring. Another big plus was having a washer and dryer, especially for a week-long stay! The house was also fully equipped with everything needed to cook at our leisure, which made it feel like a true home away from home.
The location couldn’t have been better—walkable to tons of great restaurants, bars, and stores, making it easy to experience the best of Key West without needing a car.
One of the most memorable moments for me was spotting the framed Yankees poster upstairs from the last game at the old stadium. That’s where my husband and I got engaged, and seeing it here brought a huge smile to my face!
We also had the pleasure of bringing our friends Jim and Patty along—Jim had never been on a plane before, and what a perfect place for his first flight! This trip was full of unforgettable memories, and we are so grateful for this wonderful home.

pleasant stay in key west
We enjoyed our stay at Southard Comfort with our young family. Our kiddos especially loved swimming in the pool, which was nice and warm. We had brought our own swim toys and was glad that we did. The house was walking distance to pretty much anywhere you want to go in Key West though we did rent a car and appreciated that it had its own parking spot.

perfect stay in key west
The home is a classic key west historic home! So much love is put into the restoration and maintenance of this home. 3 couples stayed for 5 nights. Two couples who travel well together didn’t mind the close quarters upstairs in the jack n Jill bathroom. We also had a quarter bathroom in the laundry room to use & the men loved the outdoor urinal. The pool was perfect for late night swims & morning dips with a cup of coffee. Large parking spot for our car and a back gated area for our bikes. The kitchen has everything we needed. The management organized everything perfectly for us. Cheers to house keeping because this house was the cleanest home I have ever rented. This home brought us so much joy, even a few friends who stopped by to say hi were so in love with it. The location was amazing, 5-20 minute bike ride to everything in the heart of key west, far enough to enjoy the quiet mornings.

charming house in a great spot
This house is perfect for families and couples. The downstairs and outdoor area offer plenty of room, the pool is excellent, and the location is close enough to Duval but also far enough that you're protected a little from the insanity. We've stayed in Key West a number of years and Historic KWVR is the best host we've had by far. Thank you!

Amazing home in a great location of Old Town! This property has everything you need and close to several good restaurants and a convenience store close by. This place does have an off-street parking spot, but all you need are bikes down there that you can rent from a place a few blocks away. This property is definitely worth booking short or long term!

three couples visiting key west for four nights
This house suited the needs of a four night trip to Key West by three couples that travel well together. Well maintained, pretty and traditional Key West property, complete with nearby crowing roosters in the morning. About eight blocks from Duval Street. We found it okay to walk TO Duval Street in the afternoon but quite a slog to walk BACK from Duval Street late at night after dinner and drinks. Took an Uber. Biggest heads-up about this house is the bathroom arrangement. The descriptions contradict...3 baths stated in one place and 2.5 baths stated in another place. In reality, there is only one full private bathroom in the MBR, a second full private bathroom that is between the other two bedrooms in a "Jack and Jill" arrangement. The third "bathroom" consists of a toilet and lavatory in the laundry room and a shower outside by the pool. A bit misleading but technically 3 bathrooms all together! If you travel well together...not an issue. If you require more privacy...could be a problem...particularly if there are snorers that rattle the louvered doors throughout the bedrooms and bathrooms. Anyway, nice place and good service. We'd return.

paradise in what felt like a home in the center of it all!
It was such a wonderful property. One of the cleanest places I've ever booked from AirBnB.
Location was perfect to walk to and from Duval, but far enough to be quiet. The pool was warm and having an outdoor shower/men's room was a nice feature. This house is perfect for three couples, or a large or extended family.

exceptional family holiday vacation
We loved everything about this wonderful rental property. Spacious and clean with a great layout. The design of the outside deck and pool creates an integrated feel for the whole property. Childproof locks on all doors were perfect to ensure our two small grandkids were kept safe. It's located in a a quiet part of Old Town with easy access to any of the main tourist destinations. We decided to rent a 6-person golf cart rental and had a blast navigating Old Town. The staff at HKWVR were all extremely professional, responsible and helpful.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The only problem was backyard gets no sun. Even though it was very hot, no sun comes thru the greenery. I would remove one clump of palms beside the fountain. Leave the other side. They’d still have the same Key West feel to the pool area

This is a great rental home and I am very appreciative of Historic Key West Rentals for their assistance. Everything was easy and as it should be. The home is beautiful and the pool is a great addition and very refreshing. The bedrooms upstairs are all spacious and very well appointed. The kitchen is great and definitely the gathering place for the home and the dining room is large and comfortable. One recommendation - the kitchen is great and having someone (like me) who likes to cook it could use a small set of Tupperware for leftovers. The outdoor shower and grill were great bonuses and definitely used during our stay. Would absolutely rent this home again!

The house was just as described and looked just like the pictures. We had an amazing time staying at Southard Comfort. It definitely has the “Key West charm” and the owners have done a fantastic job decorating the home. The cocktail pool was just what we needed in the afternoon when it was too warm to venture out. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was very well stocked. Cindy was very helpful in recommending places to eat and reserving a golf cart for us. Annie checked in on us and was great at answering any questions we had. I would highly recommend this charming home to anyone. The location is great - off the beaten path but still close enough to wonderful restaurants and night life.

My family of 4 had a wonderful stay at Southard Comfort! We enjoyed the location very much. And, the pool area was a HUGE hit my our 12 year old son. He could've stayed in the pool all day! We enjoyed many take out meals on the deck as well. The rooms are so spacious and all of the amenities were perfect. We can't wait to come back and would definitely stay again!

We had a wonderful time during our stay at this beautiful home. The house is very well taken care of, clean, freshly painted. The pool is great, almost magical with all the lights at night, just perfect for a little swim. We had a chance to cook few meals and the kitchen had everything we needed. The house is in perfect location, walking distance to all the restaurants and attractions, but far enough not to be bothered by any noise at night. There were 6 of us in our party and the house was perfect! The pool was lovely and just the right size. The outdoor space was lush and I had a favorite palm tree right over the dining area. The house had charm and everything we needed for food prep. The only negative I have is that the mattress in the room we stayed in was not very comfortable. Otherwise, we had an excellent stay!

Southard Comfort was just as described. The house was clean & comfortable for the 6 of us staying there to celebrate my husband’s birthday! We used the pool every day. While there, we rented a boat & captain Karen took us to Barracuda island where we sat in the water & on the beach & enjoyed the beautiful view! Susan at HKWR, was extremely helpful & friendly. We enjoyed our stay at Southard Comfort very much. The Check-In was seamless and the friendly staff even offered to send someone to heat up the pool more if needed. We used that wonderful pool every day!
The house is spacious and well appointed. The shared bathroom upstairs is a bit awkward in it's design, making it better for a family than 2 couples.
Overall, we give this rental a BIG thumbs up!

wonderful vacation home
Southern Comfort was everything it promised, comfortable accommodations with a nice kitchen, spacious dining and living rooms and a wonderful back yard with spacious dipping pool, comfortable seating, nice outdoor dining area, private and secluded.
Minor adjustments to make it perfect:
Master bedroom mattress should be replaced, or at least a bed board added. Can induce backache for some of us.
Washer seemed to require running the spin cycle twice to fully drain. Dryer made a squeaky noise. Maybe a new belt needed?
House looked great with what appeared to be a new paint job. Fantastic location.
Concierge was super helpful!. Thanks tomBrenda for facilitating. Will definitely be using you guys again for future visits (2023).

From the time we pulled in the driveway, Southard Comfort was inviting, quaint and more than we expected. First, having a parking space in key west is a blessing! The home met every one of our needs and more. The pool was tranquil and welcomed us home each day after exploring Key West. The beds were comfortable and there was tons of storage. The roosters crowing at 5am just added to the Key West vibe. The kitchen was well stocked and the AC and fans kept the house super comfortable. Don’t miss this little oasis!

It was perfect for our group.of 3 couples with enough space and privacy when needed as well as common areas where we could hang out and relax. The pool was perfect! The house was beautiful it checked all the boxes for sure. The pool was a nice touch to relax in after a hot day out on Duval St. The property management company was great. They were friendly and helpful. They gave us tips on things to do, they called us to let us know the house was ready to get into early. It was about .8 mile from Duval St. which was fine with me. We did Uber sometimes because some of us were not as happy about waking and that was around $6. I would recommend this house for anyone planning to stay in Key West.

We rented this unit for mini season. the house was great. Kitchen is well stocked with pits and pans for cooking at home. Pool came with floats, even though pool is small! the beds were comfy, living room area spacious. 2 parking spots are nice but tight. beware-park spots do NOT include a spot in front of house on street!! must be in driveway which is really tight for entering and exiting car. have no major complaints. One improvement would be for owners to buy larger tv's! master TV is adequate, but all others are way too small. TV's are cheap these days

My wife and I had great week in Key West and we loved this house. It is large, beautifully decorated and is in a great location. The private pool was perfect especially with the large French doors open from the living room. We rented a car for the week and having a driveway to park in was super convenient. Also it is within easy walking distance to Duval St. We would definitely stay her again when returning to Key West.
The owners were very nice and even made a stop by to be sure the garbage cans were put out for pickup. This is a great rental property!!

a fabulous five days
We absolutely loved staying at Southard Comfort. We’ve been coming to Key West for about ten years, staying at perfectly nice places, but this year we decided to splurge a bit. And we were so glad we did! Southard Comfort is a lovely mix of elegant & comfortable. It’s situated in the quiet residential area we like to walk around, with the historic wood-frame houses, an easy fifteen-minutes amble to the grocery store (Fausto’s). And having a private pool — what a delightful indulgence! We were also happy with the way the owners & management company dealt promptly with a short power outage. It was heaven.

awesome key west rental!
What a great place to stay in Key West! Close to Duval but far enough away to be quiet and private. The heated pool was great!
We wished the water feature in the book worked but the great folks at Key West vacation rentals assured us it would get fixed quickly. We didn't bother to call them early in our stay so it is hard to fault them. The real only NIT that we have (which most wouldn't) is that we wished the TV were a little larger. I know folks don't come to Key West to watch TV but in a way, we do. Every year a buddy of mine and I ride our motorcycles down from the DC area to watch the Superbowl on Duval. A 7th year (and running) tradition for us. There have been previous years when it was a little chilly or rainy and we didn't want to go out to Duval to find a place to watch. That's where a bit bigger TV in Southard might have come in handy. It wasn't necessary as the weather when we were there in Feb (2019) was amazing! Like I said, a TINY NIT in an otherwise awesome place. We loved it!

Came here with some friends to celebrate our wives 40th birthday. Had a great relaxing time at the property. Short walk to Duval and far better than staying in a hotel. Property management company went above and beyond to accommodate us. Only downside is we couldn't stay longer. Highly recommend!

everything you could want when coming to key west!
The Keys have been a lifelong destination for us. The air, water, and people there do it for us. So it's nice to find another treasure there we've not experienced. The Southard Comfort home was all we could have wanted. Beautifully done, tastefully decorated, and so so comfortable. The pool area is where we spent half of our time. A cool pool in Florida in August is unheard of! Felt like a million! So happy when a trip gives you everything you could want or need. Relaxed, peaceful, and happy. Just what the doctor ordered!!

A great vacation was had by all of us. We were 6 adults and never felt cramped. The home for most was perfect! A bit off beaten path from Duval, but we enjoyed the walk, and the peace and quiet. Enjoyed having coffee in the morning on front porch and afternoon drinks by the pool. Loved how the doors slid completely open to allow the outdoors in. I gave condition/cleanliness only a 4 because the skylight screens were ripped in master and very dirty. The ceiling fan needs to be replaced, it shook and had an annoying clank when on. Ceiling fan outside of kitchen door has a broken paddle and also shook when on. We had to call to have pool cleaned. very prompt, but only skimmed it. Could have used a good vacuum. Surprised the pool wasn't heated,as we thought it was advertised as heated. All in all,the house itself was very clean and comfortable. Master bed was super comfy!! We really enjoyed our stay.

This was so nice!!! The owner of the house is so great and helpful, and the house is to die for. We went for my sister's bachelorette weekend and she loved the house, location and experience altogether. Great pool too :)

southard house
We loved our spacious and spotlessly clean house. In the mornings, we would sit by the pool. It was a lovely way to start the day. The location was perfect. We rented bikes for the days we were there and pedaled all over the central part of Key West. Carl came to fix a light switch and was friendly and kind. It was a great find.

We had a great time in this cozy and beautifully furnished cottage. Secluded from the neighbors in an otherwise busy neighborhood. The only downside is that there is alot of traffic on Southard Street which made it noisy. But the upside was that it is close to restaurants, bike rentals etc.

vacation within a vacation
No lie our business group enjoyed all the amenities along with the night life of course. The property's location was perfect. It was a short walk to the strip and great cafe on the way. Not to mention a 4 star restaurant emidiatly around the corner. As for the far excursions we just ubered no more than a 2 min wait. And once we got back to the beautifully decorated house is when our second vacation started. We could communicate with our party from the pool to the kitchen and living room and with the fountain running just topped it off. Super clean house. I want to buy this house just the way it is and I wouldn't change a thing. Btw we got lucky and there was ice cold beer in the fridge when we arrived which helped with the time to get settled in. ( I'm sure it was from the last people so thank you if you see this ) we will definitely be back. Let me know if decide to sell and anybody can call me to verify truth to this long review

second stay as great as the first!
Love everything about this house! It's the 25th visit to the island for my husband and me, and the second time we've stayed at Southard Comfort with our twin teens. Great location, beautiful decor, super kitchen/dining set-up, lovely pool area, spotless from top to bottom, super comfy king bed in the master bedroom, great space overall, great this, great that... I could go on and on. The only downside? Showers are a little unusual (slanted ceiling in master bath is a little short for my 6'3" husband, shared bath for two other bedrooms not ideal for privacy or shower optimization - it's a footed tub with a surround curtain) but that is the only downside... and it's a minor one. I most definitely highly recommend staying here - it's ideal for a family of four - and could easily handle more if you go two-to-a-queen in the two guest bedrooms.

great house, excellent location...
This is our second time staying at Southard Comfort. Each time we have met the owners and they have always been very friendly and engaged. The house is nicely furnished, the kitchen is well equipped, and for a family with children it's perfect. The location is nice because it is close enough to restaurants and shops, but just far enough away to be quiet and off the beaten path. Although it has a parking spot, we have always just rented bikes and pedaled everywhere. Fausto's for groceries is a 5 minute bike ride away. The pool is small, and the area around it is very shady, but it's an otherwise pleasant space. It's nice to have a washer and dryer. My only criticism is that the master bed mattress should be replace. It's soft and lumpy and not comfortable. I have made the property management company aware of this and hope the owner will take action on this for the benefit of future renters. Overall, big thumbs up for Southard Comfort!

lovely home!
Our weeklong stay at Southard was wonderful. The home is lovely and well suited for families or small groups. Our concierge Phil went above and beyond to help us with our needs while we were there. The owners were very quick to address a very small issue while we were there. Great location that is a short bike ride from Duval Street fun. The heated pool was excellent and all the furniture was very comfortable. We all loved the outdoor shower. The house was well stocked with everything you would need and the owners were kind enough to leave us some small snacks and cold beers to kick off our stay. The house is near several excellent restaurants-- El Siboney, Cafe Sole, Azur, Seven Fish, Mangia Mangia. The one thing I would have people be aware of is that all of the bedrooms are upstairs and the slatted doors on all of the doors (including bathrooms) make it a little less private than I would have preferred. Overall, an excellent property and we would definitely stay there again!

such a wonderful place!
Upon arrival we were greeted by Nancy and Carl. In our brief passing you can tell they are such wonderful people. Carls best advice was "dont wait till the last day to check out the outdoor shower". Dang was he right! It was so easy to jump in rinse off and a nice dip in the pool after a day of riding bikes or laying on the beach. It truly made for a magical trip to the Keys. We had a party of 6 and there was plenty of room to move around in the house if you wanted. The veranda and pool were so very nice with an adult beverage after after a day in the high 90 temps. AC AND fans in each room allowed you to get that cool night breeze if you so desired. Also within a 3-4 minute bike ride you could be at no less than 6 different restaurants and 2 markets. So not only is the home itself a gem, inice location.

perfect!
this was the perfect vacation home. the house was beautiful, very clean. private pool was the perfect size for us to hop in and cool off. hardly spent any time inside because of the shaded patio and pool! the outdoor shower was great, none of us showered inside again after the first night. Walking distance to duval, but away from the craziness when you want a break. it definitely was a hard place to leave....

peaceful paradise
This house is a simple Charm. From the front door to the awesome pool and porch area, you feel as though you are at home, at least for a week !The location was perfect, just far enough away from Duval or Main Street, yet a few blocks to the Marina area. Phil was our concierge for the week, and was very helpful
especially with the restaurants. This is a must
return destination for house and of course Key West itself.

great ocation and wonderful place!
This is an ideal location to stay while visiting Key West. Close but not too close to all the action. You can walk easily to various things but are far away enough from Duvall to avoid all the noise.
The house is nicely laid out and has a wonderful side yard. The small pool is perfect for hopping in and cooling off.

This cottage is stunning! The living room with doors that slide open looking out onto the pool is unmatched! Updated kitchen, laundry, dining room, outdoor shower, 3 spacious bedrooms, etc. is perfect for 4-6 people. Well kept cottage, centrally located in a friendly neighborhood with an impressing number of intimate bars & restaurants for those who need a break from Duval Street, this place has it all! Last but not least, the staff at Historic Key West Vacation Rentals are uber friendly, great communicators and so easy to work with -- really top notch all the way around!

couples getaway extended unexpectedly
Southard Comfort was wonderful. The decor, location, and amenities were perfect! The staff at Historic Key West were amazing! From bike rentals to restaurant and activities recommendations, they had the answers! When our flight was cancelled due to weather at home, they and the property owners allowed us to stay an additional 2 nights to ease the stress of finding other accommodations! Would stay here again and would recommend to others!
